DuPage County road acquisitions

DuPage property owners do not have to accept the first offer.

Road widening, bridge work, drainage, and utility projects can take valuable frontage and reduce the usefulness of what remains. Cacciatore Law Group helps DuPage owners test the agency's offer against the property's real market value and the full effect of the plans.

Why owners contact us

Protect the value built into your DuPage property.

A shopping center, office campus, industrial site, home, or development parcel is worth more than the land inside an acquisition line. Cacciatore Law Group looks at the property as an operating whole. That includes entrances, parking, deliveries, leases, detention, signage, zoning, development potential, and the cost of adapting the remainder after construction.

What owners should examine

A partial taking can create a permanent operating problem.

A revised driveway, median, retaining wall, drainage structure, or utility easement can change access and use long after construction ends. The plans should be compared with leases, site plans, permits, daily traffic patterns, and the property's highest and best use before compensation is resolved.

Active projects and owner concerns

DuPage construction with property implications

The County’s Annual Highway Program gives unusually detailed status information. The following projects were active in the 2026 program when this page was reviewed.

Under construction

Naperville Road from I-88 to Ridgeland Road

The corridor is being widened and resurfaced with intersection changes at Diehl Road and Naperville-Wheaton Road. The County reports shifted lanes, temporary signals, storm sewer work, and utility relocation, with completion anticipated in 2027.

What property owners should examine

Wider pavement and revised turns can affect commercial entrances, corner influence, stormwater facilities, and the way traffic reaches adjoining property.

Utility relocation and construction preparation

Lemont Road from 83rd Street to 87th Street

The project adds and rearranges turn lanes, replaces traffic signals, and includes storm sewers, retaining walls, sidewalks, and resurfacing. The County states that the construction start has depended on utility relocation.

What property owners should examine

Utility easements, retaining walls, new drainage, and intersection widening can create permanent and temporary burdens beyond the visible road edge.

Active bridge reconstruction

Warrenville Road bridge over the East Branch DuPage River

The bridge replacement includes retaining walls, sidewalks, a path, stormwater storage, pavement reconstruction, and relocated aerial and underground utilities. Traffic has been staged across the newly built half of the bridge.

What property owners should examine

Bridge approaches can alter grades, drainage, and access well outside the bridge itself. Utility moves may also require separate easements across nearby property.

Before you sign

Have the offer and plans reviewed together.

The documents should be evaluated as a single acquisition package, with attention to both the land requested and the property that remains.
