DeKalb County bridge and highway work

DeKalb County owners can push back when projects demand their land.

Pipeline loops, highway widening, bridges, and drainage projects can divide farmland or reduce the value of developed property. Cacciatore Law Group helps DeKalb County owners understand the taking and build a case for the full impact.

Why owners contact us

Every acre, easement, and access point should be valued in context.

DeKalb County projects affect industrial corridors, homes, farms, development land, and rail-related property. Cacciatore Law Group represents the owner and looks beyond a generic per-acre or frontage calculation. Drainage tile, access, parcel division, easement limits, soil, improvements, zoning, and future development can all influence what the project costs the property owner.

What owners should examine

The headline project may hide additional property rights.

A bridge can bring approach widening and ditches. A pipeline can bring permanent easements, temporary workspace, access, and restoration obligations. Owners should review the complete acquisition package and identify how each requested right affects current use and future value.

Active projects and owner concerns

DeKalb County projects with current property relevance

The County’s construction bulletins, bridge page, and 2026 improvement program distinguish active work from projects still moving through design and acquisition.

Under construction through 2026

Peace Road bridge and widening

The two-year project runs north of Illinois Route 64 toward Freed Road in Sycamore. It replaces the existing bridge with a wider three-span structure and includes roadway widening, pavement work, ditch grading, and guardrail. Completion is projected in fall 2026.

What property owners should examine

The combination of bridge, roadway, and ditch work can affect access, frontage, drainage, and the remaining depth of nearby property.

Engineering, acquisition, and programmed construction

Plank Road at Lindgren Road

The County’s 2026 progress report identifies a roundabout at Plank and Lindgren with engineering complete, land acquisition underway, and construction programmed for 2026.

What property owners should examine

A rural roundabout can require a broader corner footprint, reshape farm access, and create remnants that are harder to use efficiently.

Guardian G3 Joliet and Sycamore Loops

DeKalb County is part of both proposed Illinois pipeline loops. Guardian proposes about 42.6 miles in Kendall and DeKalb Counties and about 25.5 miles in DeKalb and McHenry Counties, plus modifications at the existing Sycamore Compressor Station. Construction is proposed for September 2027, subject to approvals.

What property owners should examine

DeKalb owners may face survey, easement, temporary workspace, access, drainage, crop, restoration, and compensation issues. Because both loops and station work touch the county, the current route and exact property rights should be confirmed for each parcel.
